Can you reccomend a PPA for a version of libqt that matches Noteadqq that will work on Ubuntu 14.04 / Elementary Freya 0.3?

I currently have no menu bar and Notepadqq informs me I’m using a old version of Qt 5.2.1

I don’t think it exists, considering also that Ubuntu’s Qt version is heavily patched.
You could try using the Qt packages from Ubuntu Utopic, but the cleaner and safest way, at the moment, is to install Qt using the official installer (e.g. in /opt) and then create a symlink to ~/Qt. Or just install it in ~/Qt.
You won’t get the Ubuntu patches (for example, global menu integration), but it’s straightforward and keeps your system clean.

Unfortunately, the libraries included in Ubuntu Trusty don’t have an high enough quality to provide a perfect experience.

I used these instructions
wget http://download.qt-project.org/official_releases/qt/5.3/5.3.0/qt-opensource-linux-x64-5.3.0.run
chmod +x qt-opensource-linux-x64-5.3.0.run
./qt-opensource-linux-x64-5.3.0.run

To be honest, I hate Ubuntu Global Menus, one reason Im running Elementary OS 0.3, the Progress has been great lately – great work all.

Also, I wonder if the web admin can switch comments to use Disqus, that would be great imo as it has email notifications when you get a reply.
